Here's another short one: So a couple weeks ago, my girlfriend and I purchased a bunch of sunflower seeds for a dollar. We planted a few in the pot we were provided, and the rest in my background. The ones in the pot grew very quickly, while most of the ones in the back didn't grow at all. Then, on an unfortunate number of days, turbulent weather conditions killed the ones we had placed in the pot. We were pretty downtrodden, but as luck would have it, the slow growers in the back were finally sprouting. Unfortunately, only one survived out of the entire batch. However, that one sprout was incredibly persistent, and has managed to at least get this far (see picture) in spite of absurd weather and practically nutrient-less soil. Seeing it always brightens my mood a bit, being the one sprout that refused to die.

Simple Stories #2
Here's a short one for today:
There was once a time when I had somehow lost my girlfriend's spare car key. Neither she or I could figure out how it could've possibly happened, since we had left it in a safe compartment in my own car. Regardless of how it occurred though, we were saved by the kindness of a stranger. This man had found the lost key, and left a note on my girlfriend's car with contact information. After we got a hold of him, he happily returned the key to us. Naturally, I was ecstatic about getting the lost key back, and my girlfriend was also relieved. However, it also made me happy to know that there's a little kindness in the world.

Simple Stories #1
I recall a time, many years ago, when I once lost my wallet. My dad was running errands at a local store, so he had dropped me off at an arcade so that I could amuse myself while I waited. Back then, I was all about playing Dance Dance Revolution, getting in both some fun and some exercise. Since playing DDR requires a lot of movement and maybe even jumping, I always emptied my pockets before play. This time was no different, and I pulled out my phone, keys, and wallet so I could (fake) dance my boredom away. After a few tiring and potentially embarrassing rounds, I got a call from my dad saying that we were heading on home. Eager to leave, and absent-minded like I always was, I only grabbed my keys and phone. I didn't realize my mistake until I had gotten into my dad's car. Thankfully, my dad wasn't upset, and we both went back into the arcade to look for it.
Unfortunately, a group of kids as old as I were nearby when I was playing DDR, and had seen me leave my valuable behind. Like any good citizen, they promptly grabbed the wallet and robbed me blind. Alas, there is some good news to be found here! A little girl had also seen what happened, and realizing what they were doing, immediately attempted to take the wallet back. She claimed I was her brother, and that I'd return for her and my wallet. They didn't pay her any mind and only returned the wallet, void of any cash. She then turned in the wallet to Security, who later returned the wallet to me. I know this story, because it was later recounted to me by the little girl, who had seen me as I was leaving in irritation. She apologized that she couldn't get my money back, but really, she had done enough.
She was so young, and yet, knew exactly what the right thing to do was. Stories like this make me smile, because it shows me that there are good people in the world. Sure, I ended up being short $60, but I got my wallet back and a good deed to retell.
